Car Shows off 100s of classics

Hundreds of Canyon Lakers oohed and awed at the 239 Cars on display at the 16th annual Canyon Lake Car Show at the Canyon Lake Lodge Saturday.

The Canyon Lake Car Club and the Canyon Lake POA put on the fun-filled event with spectators being able to take a look at the pre-1997 specialty vehicles, Modern Muscle cars, vendor booths, lots of food, a ski show and a 50/50 raffle drawing. An all-day DJ kept the music going with a festive vibe.

Owners of the cars that participated paid a fee to display their cars with all proceeds going to two local charities, Helping Hands and Project Touch.

“We appreciate how the community came out and supported the Car Show,” Chuck Casey, Canyon Lake Car Club co-manager of the Car Show, said. “This is such a great event for the community. We extended the year by which a car was qualified to register to pre-1997 because we want to encourage young people to join the Car Club. We want the younger folks to participate in all our amazing activities throughout the year.”

This is the second biggest Canyon Lake POA event of the year, next to Fiesta Days. This year the Car Club reached its full capacity of entries and not only filled the Lodge parking lots, but also its lawns.

“Everyone who helps with the Car Show spends lots of time leading up to the event preparing,” Chuck said. “The night before and the day of the event we work tirelessly to make sure everything runs smoothly. We have seven to eight of us who start preparation in April or May with weekly meetings. When the event draws closer, we meet weekly with more and more of the volunteers.”

The Car Show trophies are unique in design and go to only non-members of the Canyon Lake Car Club.

Awards were distributed at a special awards ceremony toward the end of the show. Community resident Mark Towle of Gotham Garage and the Netflix show “Car Masters: Rust to Riches” presented the final trophy for Best in Show Overall to Robert Cianciminio and his 1967 Chevy Wagon.

The silent auction was a huge success with one winner taking home a Garage Screen Door, donated by California Lifestyle Screens and valued at $2,500 and one winner taking home a portable auto lift.

The winner of the 50/50 Canyon Lake Family Matters Club took home $1,110.
