Woman’s Club Chili Cook-Off tomorrow

The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club Hot Autumn Nights Chili and Cornbread Cook-Off tomorrow will not only bring the cooks into the limelight, but those who attend will get their fill of the food those contestants bring. Club members and their friends will also serve as the judges as they rate the entries.

Members and their guests are invited to the cook-off at the Canyon Lake Senior Center at 5:00 p.m. For the entry fee of $15.00 each, those attending can enjoy an evening of sampling contestants’ chili, a taste or two of some homemade cornbread and a drink.

There will also be raffle tickets sold and an opportunity to purchase old-fashioned goodies from select vendors all while music is played. A Corn-Hole Contest will also take place. Both Canyon Lake Woman’s Club members and their friends can sign up to enter their chili and/or cornbread in the cook-off. Winners in multiple categories will receive a variety of prizes.

Categories for chili are: Most Like Mom’s, Where’s the Beef? (other meats or vegetables) and Fire in the Hole!!!! (spiciest). All entries will be entered in the People’s Choice category with the winner receiving a $100 Grand Prize. There are two cornbread categories: Sweet and Savory. To enter, contact Dawn Rankins at 951-447-1274 for more details and information.

Those in attendance will also be the judges. A voting card is included in the admission fee and when all of the cards are turned in, the winners will be named for both the chili and cornbread categories.

The $15.00 cost includes all the tastings, a voting card and one drink ticket. The cook-off event is private and is for members and their guests only. For tickets, call Woman’s Club President Shawna Bowen at 714-394-4885.

Vendors of “good ol’ hometown items” will also be at the event and will sell their wares to those in attendance.
