Vacation Park ‘soft opens’

The $2 million Vacation Park is awaiting some backordered playground equipment and fitness stations, but the Canyon Lake POA isn’t waiting to open its signature park. A soft opening will take place on Wednesday with its main feature, a pump track for bikes, skateboards and scooters, opening as well as accompanying bleachers, walking trails, a shaded picnic area and restrooms.

The project, which converted a piece of useless association-owned land into a unique family park opposite the existing Sierra Park, was officially named Vacation Park recently. It had originally carried the Sierra Park North name.

The park has been landscaped with new plants and trees. The natural landscaping will take time to mature, but will eventually transform the park into what the POA is predicting will be a serene atmosphere. Due to manufacturer delays, the playground and fitness stations will be installed when delivered, which will be sometime before the end of the year.

The pump track is a state-of-the-art facility which has become a popular destination for youths with non-motorized personal devices such as bicycles, skateboards and scooters. Before using the track, though, riders must complete a waiver and receive decals for their device. Completed forms need to be returned to the Canyon Lake POA’s Member Services office where the decals will be issued.

In the very near future, POA cards will be required to enter the track. Cards will be activated and will be used to open the gate to the pump track.

“If your children do not already have POA cards, this is a great time to get them one,” the POA said.

Those looking to use the pump track can visit the website www.clpoa.com/vacationparkproject to read Pump Track Rules and download the Pump Track Waiver.

The $2 million project, which was approved through a vote of the Canyon Lake POA membership last year, included a 10 percent contingency. The original bids for its construction came in higher than that, but through adjustments in how the retaining walls were designed and built saved enough to make the approved funds sufficient.
