In Memoriam: Richard Marott

Richard Marott

Richard Allen Marott, born in San Pedro CA in 1953, passed away July 29, 2022. He leaves his wife Kim, brother, Ron, two children, Allie and Nate, their spouses and five adored grandchildren. Richard and Kim were married in 1984.

Richard received the highest scouting award at 17 and became a Jr. Scout Master earning his Eagle Scout Award. At San Pedro High, he earned Varsity Letters in water polo, cross country, and swimming. He swam competitively and was a member of the Key-Club Honor Organization.

Richard played many musical instruments. He attended the University of Portland two years studying Marine Biology, deciding he would rather work with his hands, his true giftedness.

Richard did side jobs with his father learning house painting, cabinetry, plumbing, electrical, tile, window replacement, sprinkler systems, room additions, car mechanics, patio construction, and cooking. A handyman extraordinaire! Add to that his love of golf, fishing, sailing, wakeboarding, rock climbing, bicycling, skiing and camping.

Richard was a sheet metal worker managing large commercial jobs for 36 years. He loved this trade. He was on cranes, inside huge pipes, taking the most challenging and dangerous jobs.

On his 40th birthday, Richard had a pirate surprise party with a Joan Rivers impersonator roasting him with family stories of what a rascal he was.

One week after the party, Richard had a heart attack and died on the hospital table. A very athletic   female nurse saw that the defibrillator didn’t resuscitate him so she beat his chest until his heart started again. During his six-month recovery, he  began golfing and he never quit. As a boy he golfed with his father. Richard was the official Canyon Lake Golf Club Marshall.

Kim and Richard moved to Canyon Lake in November 2020. This was his dream community with the perks of a vacation destination. He loved the two years he spent here.

The community has rallied around the family with food, flowers, donations, and kindness that has been treasured in this time of grief.

“As a family,  we are heartbroken at the earthly loss of our husband, father, and Popsie yet knowing he is with the Lord,” Kim said. “We love you Richard and are missing you.

“When 911 was called, our Canyon Lake Fire Department assisted beyond first responder duties,” Kim said. “They held my hand while questions were answered. They cooked me breakfast and knew Richard, telling stories about interactions with him at the golf course and market.”
