Library to hold a variety of August events

Canyon Lake Library Branch Manager Kimberly Pike has set up a variety of diversified August events for patrons of the library.

New on the Canyon Lake Library’s schedule is an event where those 10 and up can learn how to play Dungeons and Dragons from some real experts of the game.

The event will take place next Friday (Aug. 5) from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Registration is encouraged and will guarantee a seat.

Beginning on Monday, the library will have a free summer program to teach kids about how money works. Cassidy Eden from Eden Accounting and Bernadette Mycroft, an elementary school kindergarten teacher, will teach the children the ABCs and 1,2,3s of money. Space is limited, so register now. The topics for this event will be: The Three W‘s of Money: What it is, Why we need it, Why we save it. There will be two sessions of the class and the class will be taught on three different days.

On Monday, those in elementary school will go first and have a class from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Students in middle school and high school will go from noon to 12:45 p.m.

On Wednesday, elementary students will go from noon to 12:45 p.m. and middle school and high school students will go from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.

On Friday, elementary kids will meet from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and middle school and high school kids will meet from noon to 12:45 p.m.

“More Than a Lemonade Stand: How to Start a Business and What are Taxes” will be held on Aug. 8 beginning at 11:00 a.m. for elementary kids and at noon for middle school and high school students, Aug. 10 at noon for elementary students and at 1:00 p.m. for middle school and high school kids, and Aug. 12 at 11:00 a.m. for elementary kids and noon for middle school and high school students.

The Adult Book Club meets on the last Monday of the month and this month’s club reading is “The Rumor,” by Elin Hilderbrand. The Club will meet on Aug. 29 at 4:00 p.m. Copies of the book can be found at the circulation desk.

Between the Pages Book Club meets on the fourth Friday of the month and will meet on Aug. 26 at 4:00 p.m. This month‘s reading will be “The Mysterious Benedict Society” by Trenton Lee Stewart. This book club is an opportunity for “Tweens” to make new friends while reading a book and getting together to talk about it.

Toddler storytime is on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and is open to children ages 1-6. Miss Ginny or Miss Gretchen share their favorite story and help with a free craft based upon the story.

On the 1st and 4th Friday of the month, a Bilingual Storytime is held and is fun for all ages. This is a Spanish immersion, bilingual story time with free crafts, snacks and a whole lot of fun.

The 3rd Friday of the month is Bored Play Dates at 3:30 p.m. The event is about mentoring tiny humans with games, puzzles, coloring and more and it‘s tons of fun for all ages.
