Community invited to Paddle & Pedal Regatta

Grab a board, kayak or other non-motorized boat and get to paddling with this year’s Paddle and Pedal Regatta to be held Aug. 13 at Indian Beach.

The Canyon Lake Triathlon and Fitness Club is inviting the community to bring their paddle boards, pedal boats, kayaks, canoes or rowboats to the free 10th Annual Paddle and Pedal Regatta. This year, the Paddle and Pedal Regatta will help Canyon Lake Theatre Group to stay afloat. Proceeds from a raffle will go to help fund the community theater organization, which was deeply impacted by the pandemic.

The annual regatta will begin with a group photo at 10:00 a.m. on Indian Beach before participants jump into the water and paddle or pedal from Indian Beach to the East Port Launch Ramp.

Several of the club’s triathletes who are in training are planning to swim the approximately one-mile distance alongside those in their various rafts.

Following the group paddle, there will be an adult and kids paddle board/kayak race with medals for the winners.

Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the event for prizes donated by local businesses. Tickets will be $1.00 each or 10 tickets for $5.00. The proceeds will be donated to the Canyon Lake Theatre Group which has been struggling financially following COVID-19 shutting down performances. It is ticket sales from the theatre group’s performances that fund the club. The Canyon Lake Triathlon and Fitness Club puts on a variety of fitness events throughout the year, including the Tour de Canyon Lake bicycle race, the Paddle and Pedal Regatta and the fun Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5K.

Club members participate in monthly running, biking and swimming events and other triathlon training activities. The club is seeking new members and dues are $35.00 a year for individual members and $45.00 for a family membership.
