Newly-founded club holds meeting, tours member’s backyard garden

Fourteen members of the new club, Canyon Lake Community Gardeners, met at Heather Carroll’s home for a tour, a club meeting and some refreshments prepared by the hostess.

During the meeting, Heather talked about propagation and gave the group a tour of her Canyon Lake garden.

The garden is home to a full variety of fruit trees, including fig, apple, citrus, plum, peach, and kumquat trees. In addition to the trees, the club members were shown Heather’s grape and berry vines.

Heather taught the group how to propagate plants using her chocolate mint as an example.

“We all enjoyed sharing home grown produce and plants from our own gardens,” Club President Kelly Lopez said. “The garden tour was a huge success and we will be having garden tours hosted by members either at the members home or at one of the parks.”

The next meet up will be on July 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Holiday Harbor where club members will learn about composting.

“Whether you‘re a member or not,” Kelly said, “anyone is welcome to stop by and enjoy some new gardening ideas and tips.”
