Cancer fundraiser held at Gault Field a big hit

Thirteen-year-old Nate Bock’s Mitzvah Service Project gave the youth of Canyon Lake a night to compete in a classic Hit, Pitch and Run event at Gault field, all the while raising funds for American Cancer Fighter.

American Cancer Fighter is an organization founded by Canyon Lake’s Eric Frega that is devoted to combating cancer through early detection and prevention education.

Funds were raised by charging participants in the Friday night contest $20 each. A raffle was also held. The youngsters were divided into four age groups, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. A championship ring was given to the winner in each age group.

Eric, who also coaches in the Canyon Lake Little League, assisted Nate with the event.

“Through our Fighters Club, we help to aid responders and their families who are battling cancer,” Eric said. “It is our duty to serve those who serve America in their fight against cancer.”

All proceeds went to the American Cancer Fighter Foundation, which is a 501c3 organization.

“My husband and I did help, but it was very minimal,” Nate’s mother Judith Bock said. “Nate really had a vision and executed it. The turnout and support of the event were amazing. I’m very proud of my son.”
