Participants sought for tonight’s Hit, Pitch, Run CL cancer fundraiser

Participants are being sought for a Hit, Pitch and Run fundraiser at Gault Field in Canyon Lake tonight (Friday) from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Canyon Lake teenager Nate Bock is organizing and hosting the event with co-host American Cancer Fighter Foundation, which will receive the proceeds from the event.

Nate, 13, has been working on the event along with members of the Canyon Lake community for his Mitzvah Project.

Registration will begin at 5:00 p.m. and all participants will need to bring a copy of their birth certificates. The Hit, Pitch and Run competition is for youths ages 7 to 14. There will be a maximum of 12 players in each of four age groups (7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14). A Championship Ring will be awarded to the winner in each age group. Little League age rules will determine to which group participants will be assigned.

American Cancer Fighter Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charity with the primary objective to help, aid and assist U.S. Military Service Members, Veterans, First Responders and their families who are battling cancer.

This event will raise funds through the participant fees of $20 per child, through raffle ticket sales and direct donations from the community to the charity. Participants will be given a meal and a drink in addition to entering the competition. Additionally, Nate is actively looking for donations of goods and services from the local community for the raffle prizes.

Canyon Lake’s Eric Frega is the foundation’s CEO and founder. He is a USMC veteran, a Canyon Lake Little League coach and a cancer survivor.

“I feel the importance and need to help the heroes who sacrifice daily to serve all of America,” Eric said. “Early detection was the main aspect that saved my life. That is why we are dedicated to educating all that we can of the risk factors concerning the many cancers that can affect us and to stress the importance of living a healthy lifestyle in order to help prevent a cancer diagnosis.”

The Hit, Pitch and Run event is not just for those participating, but for the community who would like to come out and cheer them on.

There is no cost for spectators, who can purchase food and raffle tickets at the event.
