In Memoriam: James Allen Paulis

James Allen Paulis

James Allen Paulis, a long-time resident of Canyon Lake, passed away peacefully in his home on April 2, 2022. Jim was born on Aug. 24, 1937 to Oscar and Lorraine Paulis in St Louis, MO. He had a sister, Shirley, who died when she was two years old, leaving Jim an only child.

Jim graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1959. He then married Beverly Sang and they had four children. He was in the U.S. Army Reserve for seven years while he began his career at BF Goodrich. His job required him to move his family often and to many states.

Jim was an avid golfer for most of his life and did not let the moving to new cities deter him of his golf passion. He ended up in Utah, and after a divorce, married Carol Smart in Las Vegas on Feb. 17, 1984. They moved to Canyon Lake when he retired a few years later.

Jim and Carol were both avid golfers and belonged to the Canyon Lake Country Club. Jim belonged to the 18 Holer Men‘s Club and was in charge of the Horse Race at the club.

Jim is survived by his partner Carol and daughters Lisa, Mary and Kerry. His only son, James Jr. (Jimmy), preceded Jim in death. He is survived by his seven grandchildren, Patrick, Sean, Aksel, Brady, Marin, Ellie and Serena. Jim leaves no posterity with the Paulis name. He was the last remaining Paulis in his family.

His wit and humor will be dearly missed. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Canyon Lake Country Club on June 9 at 3:00 p.m.
