Quorum not met; CLPOA election tomorrow

The threshold to achieve a quorum and count the ballots for the Canyon Lake POA annual election fell 156 ballots short yesterday. The meeting, consequently, was postponed until tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 9:00 a.m.

To reach a quorum, 1,600 ballots needed to have been received by the opening of the meeting. Only 1,444 had been turned in.

Although voting remains open and members can drop off their ballots until the 9:00 a.m. deadline, the lower quorum threshold of the adjourned meeting has already been met. The meeting will take place tomorrow and election results announced.

With Canyon Lake Property Association Board President Joe Kamashian choosing not to run for a second term and Vice President Jim Barrington’s two terms completing, there were two vacancies on the board.

Eight members ran for those two seats. Elections for the Board of Directors occur annually and are staggered. There are five total seats on the board. In the even years, two are up for election and in the odd years, there are three. The terms are for two years.

Board members are eligible for re-election after their first two-year term, but can only sit on the board for a total of two terms.

Those on ballots were Lance Phillips, Tony Schwarzman, Greg Doherty, Kalon Morris, Rita Bendlin, Carl Gardner, Bill Van Vleet and Alexis Prince.

The 2022 Inspectors of Elections will be Jeff Price and Debra Crawford from HOA Elections of California, Inc.

The Notice of Annual Meeting along with the ballots and candidate statements were mailed to members on April 4. Civil code requires they be sent out at least 30 days prior to the meeting date.

The Annual Meeting of the Members and Election of Directors will now take place tomorrow at the Canyon Lake Lodge. Polls will open at 8:00 a.m. and the meeting will be called to order and polls closed at approximately 9:00 a.m.
