Canyon Lake invited to landscape contest

Canyon Lake homeowners are being invited to enter the Inland Empire Landscape Contest, a collaboration between Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District (EVMWD) and 40 other agencies located throughout the Inland Empire region. Canyon Lake residents receive its water from EVMWD.

This year marks the bi-annual celebration of the contest where 10 winners will receive $500 prizes.

In southern California, most residential water use in Riverside County is used outdoors, primarily to water landscaping, Bonnie Woodrome, EVMWD Community Affairs Supervisor, said.

“When yards contain large amounts of turf, it can significantly increase overall water use,” Bonnie said.

“By replacing conventional lawns with drought-tolerant landscaping, residents can still maintain a beautiful, colorful and lush landscape that withstands California’s dry climate. Enter our contest and show the region that saving water can be beautiful.”

To enter the contest follow the rules and submit photo entries of the front yard anytime between now and May 17.

Entries are judged on overall theme and appropriate use of water-wise plants. For information and rules, visit www.
