Cancer Fair next weekend

After weeks of planning and regular announcements as to the content, the first Cancer in Our Community Cancer Fair is only a week away. The Canyon Lake fair is sponsored by the Canyon Lake Veterans and First Responders Club and will take place May 14 at Holiday Harbor Park. There is no charge for admission.

Events will begin on that Saturday with a 10:00 a.m. Cancer Walk, beginning and ending at Holiday Harbor. Those wishing to participate in the walk need to just show up at the park.

The Cancer Prevention and Vendor Booths open at 11:00 p.m. as does the Tap Truck Temecula beer and wine booth. Tickets will be on sale during the event for beer and wine, which will help raise money for Cancer Philanthropy in Our Community. Tap Truck Temecula has partnered with Michelle’s Place and the Canyon Lake Veterans and First Responders group to be the official pourer of this event.

The booths will remain open until 4:00 p.m. JK Catering Food Truck will be on site all day offering an array of gourmet meals and desserts for purchase during lunch and dinner.

Canyon Lake’s Steel Canyon Band will take the Holiday Harbor Amphitheater stage for two hours to wrap up the Cancer in Our Community Cancer Fair May 14. There will be entertainment on the stage throughout the day. Photo provided by Steel Canyon Band.

Live entertainment throughout the day will take place at the Holiday Harbor Amphitheater. Beginning at 11:00 a.m. Code 415 will perform its 1970s and 1980s music, followed by Crimson Jazz at 1:30 p.m. Crimson Jazz is a 10-piece high school jazz band. Ending the evening with two hours of rock hits will be Steel Canyon at 5:00 p.m.

Jami Buchanan McNees, author, Ted Talk presenter and Ambassador for Michelle’s Place Cancer Resource Center, will address the audience. Jami will also be on hand to sign her published books, including “Beautiful Cancer.”

Jami will talk about how her cancer journey became one of the most amazing experiences of her life, she said.

“My career as a Health Insurance Broker allows me the privilege of helping cancer patients navigate and understand some of their options,” Jami said. “My goal is to provide hope, strength, comfort and encouragement to cancer patients and caregivers.”

A community-wide national anthem and invocation takes place at 4:00 p.m.

A Kids Corner will be set up for the children’s entertainment at the fair.

Supporting clubs of the fair are the Canyon Lake Family Matters Club, the Canyon Lake Junior Women’s Club and the Mermaids of Canyon Lake.

Other supporters are Michelle’s Place Cancer Resource Center in Temecula, American Cancer Fighter, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Kiwanis Club of Temecula Valley, the City of Canyon Lake and the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association.
