Community Theater group needs community donations

The Canyon Lake Community Theater needs donations to stay afloat according to Nicole Garvito, publicity and PR on the board of directors for the organization.

Due to the recent pandemic, many of Canyon Lake’s clubs were affected financially, however, those that seemed to feel the biggest hit were the clubs and organizations that depended on in-person attendance.

The Canyon Lake Community Theater, which receives its funding from ticket sales to live shows, has set up a GoFundMe campaign in order to help save the club from shutting down.

“Our once-thriving company has sadly fallen on hard times,” Nicole Garvito, VP of Admin on the organization‘s board of directors, said. “We are on the brink of shutting down, and in order to continue our mission, we are asking for everyone’s help to save our organization.”

The Canyon Lake Community Theater is a non-profit theater company that has been bringing live theater arts and education to the community for over 30 years.

“This organization has been beloved by so many for years as we have been a constant in giving many talented young stars their start,” Nicole said. “Our mission is to educate and nurture budding actors with decades worth of knowledge from our directors and choreographers.”

The group also gives seasoned actors an opportunity to continue on with acting as their hobby well into their adult lives.

The Canyon Lake Community Theater’s GoFundMe goal is to raise $10,000.00. Those wishing to make donations, large or small, can visit the website and search for Canyon Lake Community Theater. The funds received, Nicole said, will keep the organization alive so it can continue to bring quality live theater to the community and valley.

Alabama tribute band concert May 14

Tennessee River, a band that was formed 20 years ago to pay tribute to Alabama, will perform in the Lodge’s Holiday Bay Room on May 14. The Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild is sponsoring the concert and selling the tickets.

The band, prior to becoming Tennessee River, performed internationally in country and rock. The band has been likened to legendary bands such as the Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Diamond Rio and none other than one of country‘s favorites, Alabama.

Tennessee River was formed with the idea of bringing back and paying musical tribute to Alabama, one of the most influential and vocally dynamic country bands ever.

Tennessee River is the first and only tribute band that has the vocal chops to do Alabama‘s music justice, the group said. It has its new hybrid of contemporary cross-over music, bringing a fusion of the rural and urban sounds of modern-day country and blues, with the spirit of rock n roll.

Alabama changed country music with 21 straight #1 singles, a record that will probably never be equaled in any genre. They have brought youthful energy, sex appeal and a rocking edge that broadened country’s audience, forever changing the way bands were accepted in the country format.

The band undertook a journey that led to selling 73 million albums and entering the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Tennessee River will pay tribute to this band and its legacy on May 14. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets are $25.00 per person for general admission and are sold at the POA office. VIP seats are $45.00 per person. VIP and GA tickets can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com. VIP Reserved seats are available at www.canyonlakeguild.org.
