There’s a little pink on the golf course

You may have seen them on the golf course. The conspicuous ladies, all clad in matching pink, are on a mission and have named themselves the HH Ladies in Pink.

Every Tuesday morning, this group of like-minded women get together on the Canyon Lake Golf Course with a major goal in mind: to improve their golf skills. The group was formed because these pink-dressed gals wanted to get together and help each other improve their game without the pressure of playing in tournaments against significantly more skilled players.

“When anyone is just learning to golf, it is hard to improve your golf skills with league-type rules and regulations,” Denise Viotti said. “It’s difficult playing with competitors who are much better.”

So, about a year ago, several lady golfers got together to play just nine holes with minimal rules. The group would just go out and play a half round of golf and just try to improve.

The ladies ended up nicknaming themselves, the HH Ladies in Pink. The HH good-naturedly standing for “High Handicappers.”

The group of friends enjoy their time on the course together and are having a great deal of fun, Denise said.

“We’re working on our golf game technique, not our score,” she said. “We encourage each other as we have limitless do overs and share excitement over a 20-yard hit that simply went straight.”

And the strategy is working.

“We have found that we’ve been able to lower our handicaps while growing our friendships,” Denise said. “We do girlfriend things like getting the same golf outfits, having lunch and even getting together off the golf course.”
