Clubs take to chilly CL Polar Bear water

The Canyon Lake Wakeboard Club and Canyon Lake Ski Club are hoping Canyon Lakers will come out to cheer on their skiing and wakeboarding members at the Annual Polar Bear Day tomorrow (Saturday).

There is no cost to join in on the fun, which includes a ride around the lake, hot chocolate, coffee, snacks, and a raffle for all who participate. The annual event begins at 8:00 a.m. and concludes at 11:00 a.m. at the Main Beach.

Boarders, skiers, trick skiers, barefoot skiers, foilers, show skiers, and surfers are invited to brave the cool winter water.

“There are usually 25 to 30 participants each year,” Debbie Sacks, of the Ski Club, said. “This year the clubs hope to pull more rides and have more spectators than ever. Spectators are encouraged to come down and watch the fun, consider taking a ride, or helping out in the boats.”

After the iconic Canyon Lake Polar Bear takes its annual ride, the bear will hang out the rest of the day on the shoreline for anyone who wants a photo with the big white bear.
