Some thoughts from The Friday Flyer reporter

Hello Canyon Lake, thank you for stopping by this article. After several months learning the ropes as a Friday Flyer reporter, I thought it was time for me to introduce myself a little bit.

Dawn Rankins

My name is Dawn Rankins and I’m the only reporter on The Friday Flyer staff. Being a reporter is something new to me, so I can use all the help I can get from the various Canyon Lake clubs, organizations and groups. One of my obvious tasks is reaching out to people, a feat I must conquer to be successful with my reporting and to make sure all activities are covered and included in the newspaper. With that being said, I welcome anyone and everyone to reach out to me anytime with news and I will do my absolute best to get it to the publisher for consideration.

I had an amazing Canyon Laker reach out to me this past week asking me why I failed to cover a particular event and I’m so thankful he did. It was for no other reason than I was sick and didn’t find out about it until after the fact. I’m thankful to this person because he reached out to me instead of assuming I simply didn’t want to cover it. I encourage feedback and input.

My goal as your Canyon Lake reporter is to cover any and all events and functions to the best of my ability. Of course, I cannot be at everything, so that’s where you all come into play. Please reach out to me. I love getting the community’s stories into the newspaper. Sometimes these stories come from my attending the event, but they also come by way of people sending me news releases and photos.

It is my own opinion that no matter who you are or what club you are a part of, it deserves to be considered for an article. I promise to never allow personal opinion or feelings to sway me in any way for writing up an article.

I will do my job as best I can, and do what I can to take any of my own personal opinions and feelings out of the article. If you lead a Canyon Lake club or group, you deserve equal consideration for having your events covered.

I want to thank the one person who reached out this past week and simply asked me why something was missed. I have nothing but respect for this person and I am so appreciative that he allowed me to explain what happened.

I look forward to seeing our readers out in the community and meeting as many of you as I can. This is an amazing place to live and I am honored to be invited to as many functions as I have been and I hope to be at more.

Reach out anytime to me at dawn@goldingpublications.com. If I can’t attend the event personally, please send me the information, including high resolution photos, to my email. We are especially interested in promoting future events. Please send that information to me as well. Our deadline is Tuesday at noon.
