Canyon Lake U-18 boys win tennis sectionals

The Canyon Lake USTA U-18 boys tennis team won the Sectional Tournament over the weekend in competition in Palm Desert and Canyon Lake. The team, nicknamed The Canyon Lake Boat Racers, are made up of seven Under-18 teens.

The Saturday matches occurred in Palm Desert and the Sunday finals on the Canyon Lake lakeside courts.

“We congratulate the 18U boys team for winning sectionals,” Canyon Lake tennis pro Bobby Kielty said. “The boys worked extremely hard throughout the season, winning their league and then continuing on to win the Southern California Championship.”

The team is made up of Aiden Kielty, Nic Welty, Nolan Carr, Landon Bristow, Talan Denson, Justin Atas and Sean Atas.

The team earned a spot in the Sectionals by winning the Inland Empire League. The boys played the top teams from Orange County, San Diego County, and Los Angeles County.

Daily practices are held by the team with several skill drills and endurance training, Bobby said.
