Letter: Veterans Day thanks

Editor, The Friday Flyer:

As the Chair of the Veterans Day Committee, I want to thank all of those who participated and made sure that this year’s Veterans Day event was a success. I was constantly blown away by the efficiency and organization of committee members, some who have been on this committee for years.

This year’s committee was comprised of Carrie Pratt, Christina Taltoan, Debby Gagnon and the Field of Honor flags team, Fran Tibbet, Harry Larson, Joseph Calise, Karen Bevans and the yard flags team, Karen Doherty, Sonja Kehnt, Tiffany Grant, Tim Cook, Mindy LaTendresse, and various city staff members.

We are grateful to Scott Felloelter who led the parade with his military pace car Humvee. We are grateful to donors Jack Walmsley, Warren Kelsey, Fran Tibbet, Debby Gagnon, Karen Bevans and the Frank Family Trust for their flag donations, and the Spraul family and the Canyon Lake Association of Men (CLAMS) for their contribution to the War Birds West flyover.

This year, the Canyon Lake Tennis Club donated the Field of Honor wreath made by Creative Corner, and Allied Security sponsored the donuts and coffee provided by JK Catering. In past years, the city had solely contributed to Veterans Day.

Our Veterans Day agenda has morphed, as we are endeavoring to focus on it as a celebration, and contribute to the other days that recognize our military heroes. As a result, the city will again kick off Fiesta Day this year with a solemn Memorial Day tribute, and will be working with the Veterans and First-Responders Group to host next year’s 9/11 Remembrance.

If you are interested in joining next year’s committees to honor our amazing military, please email asauseda@canyonlakeca.gov to be added to the committee email list, or join the Canyon Lake Veterans and First-Responders group by reaching out to board members Joseph Calise or Tim Cook. On behalf of the City of Canyon Lake, Thank You!

Kasey Castillo, Mayor
City of Canyon Lake
