COVID-19 deaths continue to hit CL

COVID-19 hasn’t been kind to those in Canyon Lake the past six months. Despite a record low infection rate in the state recently, Canyon Lake has had an above-average rate of infection and deaths compared to the rest of the county.

This week saw two more Canyon Lake residents succumb to the virus. There have now been a total of 23 Canyon Lakers who have died as a result of COVID-19, an increase of seven deaths since last reported in The Friday Flyer in June. There have been 1,383 total cases of COVID-19 infections in Canyon Lake.

Canyon Lake has been one of the least-infected and least-fatal cities in the county throughout the pandemic. Canyon Lake now is only the 10th least-infected city and the city with the 13th least number of deaths. There are 29 cities in the county.

The age breakdown of the 23 who have died in Canyon Lake fall within these statistical ranges: seven in the 40-64 age group, 10 in the 65-79 age group and six in the 80+ age group. Seventy four percent have been male and 26 percent have been female.

The cases of infection have been fairly evenly spread out. Of the total 1,383 infected Canyon Lakers, 47 percent have been male and 53 percent female. Age of those infected have been age 0-4, 2 percent; 5-17, 11 percent; 18-39, 34 percent; 40-64, 39 percent; 65-79, 11 percent; and 80+, 3 percent.
