Canyon Lake’s Veterans Day

Canyon Lakers decked out their carts in patriotic themes and took to the streets of the community to celebrate Veterans Day last week. The lengthy parade started at Eastport Boat Launch, traveled across the community to Gault Field and then ended at the Canyon Lake Town Center’s Veterans Memorial Park.

After the parade had concluded, The Warbirds West planes performed a flyover over the entire city. During the COVID-19 restrictions last year, the flyover was implemented in lieu of the typical in-person events the city sponsors for the day. The flyover was so popular last year, the planes were brought back for this year’s celebration. It was visible throughout Canyon Lake.

Donuts and coffee were provided at the golf cart line up. The Canyon Lake Security Company donated $2,500 for the event.

The Canyon Lake Veterans and First Responders Group, for the first time, volunteered and helped with the parade by directing and guiding parade participants.

Hundreds of flags were planted in the yards of Canyon Lake veterans and current military. As carts in the parade wound throughout the community, little flags in these yards flew in the breeze.

Flags were also temporarily placed at the Veterans Memorial Park in the Town Center.
