100 at QuarterMania raise paddles, funds

More than 100 people grabbed paddles and excitedly bid on over 150 donated items Saturday at the Canyon Lake Family Matters Club’s annual QuarterMania event.

The club sold 75 VIP Paddles, 15 General Admission Paddles and an additional 30 paddles to those who had already purchased a paddle. Five vendors were on hand for those in attendance to shop at a discount prices. Vendors also donated products to the raffle.

One vendor said she had as much fun watching everyone’s excitement as she did selling as those in attendance raised their paddles in the air and waved them about in hopes that their numbers would be called.

In addition to all of the excitement surrounding bidding for the various items, lunch was served and included a buffet of pizza, nachos, hot dogs and soda for those that purchased the VIP paddles.

JK Catering served up free cotton candy to everyone in unique flavors like spit berry, watermelon and green apple.

Everyone in attendance went home with swag bags with items such as pens, coupons for local shops, hair ties, mints, tissues, and letter openers, all of which were donated by local businesses. Twice as many swag bags were given out than in previous years.

Something new to QuarterMania was the introduction of the cash booth. Placed in the booth was $300 in cash which was donated by ET Bar, JK Catering and an anonymous donor.

Four lucky contestants each tried their hand at grabbing their claim on the money that swirled around inside the booth.

Each contestant was given 30 seconds top grab as much money as he or she could. The largest pot won was by Joanne Lee who was able to grab $131.00.

Family Matters said they were excited and so thankful to the many donors and sponsors who were gracious enough to donate more than 150 items for the event. Included in some of the prizes donated were custom necklaces, Chick Fil A gift cards, wine baskets and tactical wallets.

The silent auction items that were donated were Disney collectibles, a wine party for 20, and hotel gift certificates. Raffle items included items like a child’s bike, Dreams dinner party for five and custom wooden artwork.
