Veterans Day Parade, Flyover Thursday

The City of Canyon Lake Veterans Day Golf Cart Parade and Flyover is set for Thursday with the parade beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Eastport Boat Launch. The flyover will take place at 1:00 p.m.

Residents and their guests are encouraged to take part in the golf cart parade. The line up begins at 9:00 a.m. Participants, who do not need to be active military or veterans, are encouraged to dress their carts and themselves in patriotic attire.

The parade will start at Eastport Boat Launch and head toward Gault Field before its trek to the Canyon Lake Town Center where the Veterans Memorial Park is located.

The Warbirds West planes will once again perform a flyover at the city Veterans Day event. During the COVID-19 restrictions last year, the flyover was implemented in lieu of the typical in-person events the city sponsors for the day. The flyover will take place at 1:00 p.m. and will be visible throughout Canyon Lake.

Donuts and coffee will be provided at the golf cart line up. The Canyon Lake Security Company donated $2,500 for the event.

The Canyon Lake Veterans and First Responders Group, for the first time, will be volunteering to help with the parade by directing and guiding parade participants.

The golf cart parade will conclude at the City of Canyon Lake Veterans Memorial Park in the Canyon Lake Town Center. At the park will be the display of the Flags of Honor. It is anticipated that more than 200 flags will be placed.

The community of Canyon Lake is encouraged to step outside and wave flags as the parade passes.

Coinciding with the Veterans Day celebration are the installation of the new military banners throughout the commercial area and along Railroad Canyon Road. The next group to be installed will be prior to Memorial Day next year.

Each year, the city collects the names of all of Canyon Lake’s veterans and active military personnel. The city collects the names via a registration process with Canyon Lake individuals and families. Names can be added by contacting organizer Karen Bevas at karenbevans@hotmail.com or 714-321-1038.

Beginning tomorrow, volunteers will begin delivering flags to the yards of everybody on the list.  The list of names and their branches of service accompany this article https://fridayflyer.com/article/2021-11-05/city-of-canyon-lake-veterans-and-active-military/
