Family Matters to give top volunteers college scholarships

The Canyon Lake Family Matters Club is going to give away $2,500 in scholarships based on volunteer hours that have been served for the club.

These scholarships are available to anyone of any age and are perfect for those teenagers who need to complete their mandatory high school volunteer hours.

Hours can be earned beginning with the Family Matters Club’s Oct. 30 Halloween Carnival.

It’s a fun and easy way to earn hours and give back to the community at the same time, Club Founder Shawna Bowen said.

The Family Matters Club will be giving away scholarships to those who volunteer the most hours with the club. As a non-profit organization, the club can sign off for the volunteer hours that the high school students need to earn in order to graduate.

The club will be tracking volunteer hours live on its FaceBook page until June 1 when the hours will be tallied and the scholarship recipients determined.

Volunteers will be able to see where they rank at all times by viewing the running tally.

The Canyon Lake Family Matters Club is a registered Presidential Service Award provider.

An award ceremony and dinner event will be held in mid-June to honor the scholarship and Presidential Service Award winners.

The club will be giving away an Elinor Martin Volunteer Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to the top volunteer.

An Ed Strong Volunteer Scholarship in the amount of $500 will be given to the next top volunteer and 10 $100 scholarships will be given to the next 10 volunteers with the most volunteer hours.

These scholarships are open to all Canyon Lake residents, regardless of age, gender or school grades.

The Family Matters Club encourages all to come out and support the club at as many events as possible.

Volunteers can sign up at signup.com/go/waNpWMU, email info@familymatters.com or call 714-394-4885.
