Canyon Lake’s Russell Gernaat’s first event occurred yesterday evening in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games. He and partner Laura Goodkind from Los Angeles competed in the preliminary heats of the PR2 Mixed 2x Rowing event from Sea Forest Waterway in Tokyo. With the race occurring after The Friday Flyer print deadlines, results will be posted on fridayflyer.com and The Friday Flyer’s Facebook page.

There were two heats run yesterday. The winner of each heat qualifies directly for the final while the rest of the boats get a second chance through the repechages, which take place tonight. The top two boats from each repechage make the final alongside the two boats that won the heats. Para rowing will use the same distance as their Olympic counterparts – 2,000 meters.
