Canyon Lake youth ages 6-17 are invited to learn the game of golf by participating in the Junior Golf Academy program at the Canyon Lake Golf & Country Club. This year-long program will give boys and girls the opportunity to learn the basic techniques of the sport, build athleticism and bond with other players.
“We want the kids to grow a love for the game and find a passion for golf,” Coach Kyle Haas said. “We will do that by teaching them technique in a fun way so that they improve and have even more fun.”
The emphasis of the lessons will include the skills necessary to succeed where the participants will learn the basics of putting, chipping, and full swing with an emphasis on physical components such as flexibility, power, and balance. With the golfers in groups of five other participants, they will also have the opportunity to create lasting friendships with other junior golfers.
The academy operates all year and is broken up into continuous four-session blocks, which are an hour and a half each and cost $60 per junior golfer. There are six players per session.
The lessons will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. as well as on Saturdays at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. (class dates and times will be based on the number of golfers enrolled).
Players are divided into five levels depending on their age. Level I: 6 to 8 years, II: 9 to 10 years, III: 11 to 12 years, IV: 13 to 14 years and V: 15 to 17 years.
Participants are asked to bring their own clubs and follow a dress code (fold down collars for boys and no jeans for boys or girls).
Interested youths can sign up any time by filling out the form at www.canyonlakepoa.com/501/Junior-Golf-Academy or by calling the Golf Shop at 951-246-1782. Any questions can also be directed to the Golf Shop.
