Family Matters Club holds old-fashion social

The Canyon Lake Family Matters Club invited the community to free ice cream Sunday and the families showed up and club members scooped away. The club held the social to bring families together and to expose the non-profit club to those in Canyon Lake. “The smiles on the faces said it all,” club founder Shawna Bowen said. “It was a nice refreshing treat on a warm July afternoon.” Kids and adults alike could choose from regular cone, waffle cone or a bowl. Then came the choice of ice cream where flavors were chocolate chip, strawberry swirl, fudge swirl, sherbet, cookies and cream and neopolitan. With ice cream scooped, the next step was a visit to the topping bar for strawberry, caramel or chocolate syrup and a variety of sprinkles. “Family Matters thanks everyone for coming out and having a scoop with us,” Shawna said. “We also thank those who donated as this is what allows us to be able to put on these fun events for the community.”
