City, POA to install license plate cameras

A series of high resolution cameras and connected computer systems will be installed by both the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association and the City of Canyon Lake to capture license plate images as well as vehicle descriptions. The crime-fighting tool will assist the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in tracking down suspects of Canyon Lake crime.

These Flock Safety cameras will be installed by the Canyon Lake POA at the community exits. The City of Canyon Lake will be doing the same on Railroad Canyon Road. Lake Elsinore has recently added similar cameras. These high performance license plate readers are far more advanced than those that are already installed at the community entrances.

Flock cameras help homeowner associations and law enforcement work together to capture the objective evidence needed to reduce crime rates, track stolen vehicles or wanted criminals, improve neighborhood security, and protect home values.

Flock Safety uses LPR (license plate recognition) cameras that “see” like a detective, according to the Flock Safety website. The devices capture objective evidence, like license plates and vehicle details, and send real-time alerts to law enforcement any time of the day or night.

The cameras send data to Flock Safety computers where its software reimagines traditional security camera footage so that it is easily searchable by timeframe, vehicle type, make, color, and license plate details — all critical information that helps police solve cases and deter future crime, Flock Safety said.

The license plate recognition and Vehicle Fingerprint technology focus solely on objective evidence. The city and the Canyon Lake POA own 100% of the footage they collect with the devices. Flock Safety said it never shares or sells data with third parties.

Every search conducted in the Flock Safety camera system requires a search reason for a traceable audit, Flock Safety said.
