Yacht Club presents $1,000 scholarships

The evening was cool, the food great and all were in great spirits as The Canyon Lake Yacht Club handed over $1,000 to each of its scholarship recipients at Holiday Harbor last week.

Luke Schlabach and Sam Bock were the honorees and Luke was the entertainment. He presented a speech and went on to thank the club for the financial aid. Although Sam was not able to attend, club members and Luke’s family dined on pizza and drinks.

“It was a great evening and the weather was incredible,” Rich Moline, the club’s commodore, said. “Everyone was glad to celebrate and spend time with one another.”

Luke graduated from Cornerstone Christian School and will be attending Pepperdine University where he will major in Economics.

Sam graduated from Santa Rosa Academy. He will attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and major in Computer Engineering.

“We are so proud of these outstanding young men,” Rich said. “They have excelled in high school and will continue to excel in university. The yacht club is happy to provide financial support for them.” The club will continue to offer these scholarships and Canyon Lake students entering their senior year should keep their eyes open for scholarship applications as the year progresses, Rich said. “On behalf of the club, I’d like to recognize and thank Karen Doherty for her work as a scholarship chairperson,” he said.
