Community BBQ set to earn funds for late vet

The recently-formed Canyon Lake Veterans and First Responders Group will be hosting a Barbecue tomorrow (Saturday) and is inviting the entire community to participate. The barbecue will take place at Holiday Harbor and will begin at 2:00 p.m.

The barbecue is a fundraiser for the late Canyon Lake Army veteran, Michael Dubay, who died after being hit by a vehicle while crossing Railroad Canyon Road near the Main Gate on June 17.

The proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards purchasing a brick at the Veterans Memorial in the Canyon Lake Town Center. The donations received at the event will also buy a military banner with his picture on it.

Although the barbecue is free, the club is taking donations. Any excess funds received after purchasing the brick and banner for Michael, will be used for future banners and bricks should the need arise.

“Anyone is welcome to join us at the barbecue,” Club President Joseph Calise said. “We want our veterans and first responders to have a sense of pride and community. We encourage those who would like to attend to donate at least five dollars. This donation will honor Michael and all members of the veterans and first responders community in the future.”

Donations are preferred to be in cash at the event, Joseph said.
