Jennifer Dain picked to fill vacancy on city council

Jennifer Dain was chosen Wednesday from a field of five individuals who submitted applications to fill the vacancy on the Canyon Lake City Council left by the death of Jordan Ehrankranz. The City Council held the special session for the express purpose of selecting the individual to fill the city councilmember spot.

Jennifer will serve until the term expires in December 2022. She was sworn in at the conclusion of the Wednesday night meeting and began serving immediately.

The four additional individuals submitting paperwork in hopes of being selected to the open spot were Travis Montgomery, James Randle, Jeanne O’Dell and Sonja Andino. Chris Poland took out an application, but did not return it by the deadline.

An ad hoc committee made up of two current councilmembers were given the task to choose candidates who would be the best fit and submit them to the council from whom to select the new councilmember, City Clerk Ana Sauseda said. The ad hoc committee decided to move all five candidates forward.

All five were interviewed in the public session by the city council. Each was given the opportunity to make a short five-minute or less statement to the council, after which councilmembers questioned each of the candidates.

Jennifer, without public office experience, is the owner of Canyon Lake’s Caregiver Providers. Prior to opening the business three years ago, she worked in leadership roles of large multi-million dollar corporations. She is active in several Canyon Lake clubs and has lived in Canyon Lake for five and a half years.

Upon the death of Jordan on May 4, the city had 60 days to fill the vacancy.

The next regular meeting of the Canyon Lake City Council will take place on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and will be a hybrid meeting where individuals may attend in person or via remote Zoom.
