Canyon Lake teens win USTA tennis titles

Canyon Lake teens Nicholas Welty and Dorian Maslach won United States Tennis Association titles Sunday in their divisions. Nicholas won the USTA Boys Singles In the 14-year-old division, and Dorian won the USTA Junior 12 and under Boys Singles division.

“The boys are incredible athletes,” Jennifer Denson, a member of the club, said. “They’re both role models for the tennis youth community, too.”

The Canyon Lake Junior Team, of which Nichola and Dorian are members, had played in sectionals in June.

“The team playing sectionals was quite an accomplishment after coming out of the COVID-19 restrictions,” Kellie Welty said.

Bobby Kielty is the Canyon Lake Head Tennis Pro and acts as a coach to Nicholas and Dorian.

“Bobby works tirelessly with the junior team four days a week,” Kellie said. “Under his guidance, the boys are quickly advancing to the next level.”

Bobby congratulates the boys for their hard work and for their success.

“The team had an amazing season this year, going undefeated in the league and advancing to sectionals. They all played great and had a wonderful season,” Bobby said. “And I’m also so proud of Nic and Dorian and their recent accomplishments.”
