9ers caravan around CL to deliver scholarships

Canyon Lake 9ers Golf Club members carted around Canyon Lake and surprised five Canyon Lake young men and women with $1,000 or $500 scholarship checks. Club members drove through Canyon Lake in a caravan with decorated golf carts, honking horns and cheering on the recipients.

Those receiving the scholarships were presented with a 2-by-3-foot check and balloons. The recipients were Ryleigh Barckley, Evan Hobson, Kassidy Blount, Kara Garcia, and Sam Bock.

“What a fabulous time we all had,” Mavis Schutz of the club said. “It was memorable and so worthwhile!”

The 9ers Golf Club fundraises at its Scholarship Golf Tournament each year to earn the scholarship funds.

To qualify for the scholarships, each candidate needed to be a Canyon Lake male or female resident and be graduating from high school or currently attending college this year. Applicants must have received at least a 3.2 GPA, have been actively involved in school activities, a member of a sports team and have provided community service with plans to attend college in the 2021-2022 school year.
