Letters: Letter from POA Committee Member

Editor, The Friday Flyer:

I am responding to the letter in your May 28 issue from Greg Doherty, apparently representing the POA Finance Committee, nominally regarding the POA’s eligibility for federal restaurant relief funds.

In plain fact, Mr. Doherty’s letter is largely a gratuitous, nasty personal attack on a previous letter writer who dared to suggest to the POA that they might be eligible for such relief funds (such impudence!), and who then, in his subsequent Letter to the Editor, committed the further sin of reporting unhappily about the apparently total lack of response from the POA.

Mr. Doherty effectively acknowledges the POA’s effective lack of response to the earlier letter writer’s constructive suggestions, nevertheless proceeds to call him names like “pontificator” for having unhappily reported it and for quite appropriately calling them out for it.

Mr. Doherty then goes on to acknowledge the supposedly by-gone days of the POA’s “horror-stories about mismanagement, poor communications, boondoggle projects, double-dealing and fraud,” while asserting, with no basis whatsoever, that “those days are in the rear-view mirror.” Meanwhile his letter speaks for itself that the horror-story days are still very much with us, with him plainly joining in.

At the end of his letter, Mr. Doherty then, absurdly in light of his own tone, “urges the people of Canyon Lake to take a more civil … approach.” He claims to be a person of some authority with the POA, therefore any obligation to be civil falls first and more on him than on us. When will he start?

— George Fourmyle

(Editors Note: After the initial letter from Clive Taylor was published in The Friday Flyer, Clive wrote in again and brought to The Friday Flyer’s attention that the POA staff had responded positively about his suggestion to apply for the funds and that the POA was submitting such an application.)
