Memorial Day Celebration taking place tomorrow

Hoping for more participation, tomorrow (Saturday) will be the Canyon Lake Veterans Day Committee’s Memorial Day Ceremony at the city’s Veterans Memorial in the Canyon Lake Town Center at 9:00 a.m.

Before the ceremony begins, there will be an informal golf cart procession organized by the Canyon Lake POA Board of Directors. The golf carts will leave the Eastport Park parking lot at 8:00 a.m. to make it to the City Veterans Memorial by 9:00 a.m. Residents who would like to participate in the event should arrive at the parking lot by 7:30 a.m.

“Despite Memorial Day being on Monday, we wanted to celebrate and commemorate on Saturday so that everyone could participate,” City of Canyon Lake Mayor and the event chair Kasey Castillo said. “We want this to become an annual celebration of remembrance for the military. I am also grateful for committee staff who have volunteered all their time creating this.”

The ceremony will include a bugler player who will be present to perform taps, a wreath-laying ceremony, and a speech by State Assemblymember Kelly Sayarto. A military vehicle will be on display at the City Veterans Memorial site and donuts and coffee will be served to those attending.
