Canyon Lake Storage fire aftermath

An aerial photo of the before and after of the Canyon Lake Storage facility shows the building that was totally destroyed by the fire last week.

Over 40 RVs housed inside the single structure were totally destroyed by the fire which is still under investigation, but city officials have confirmed it does not look like arson. Instead, the investigation is focusing on what is expected to be an RV’s engine that caught fire.

Some 75 firefighters and 17 fire engines from four different municipal fire departments fought the fire and were able to contain it to the single building. The fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday and was contained at 5:32 p.m.

City officials are estimating the damage to be approximately $15 million. As evidenced by the photo above, many other RVs within short distance from the destroyed structure were saved by the coordinated efforts of the fire departments. Damages could have been signficantly higher.

Meanwhile, as a result of the fire, there are Canyon Lake residents who not have a place to store their RVs. As a temporary solution, the Canyon Lake POA is allowing them to park their RVs on the street until further notice. Residents who are in need of this exception may obtain a temporary parking permit from Bluebird Hall.
