Yacht Club cleans up clean lake

In what is typically quite a busy event with myriad stories being shared about the odd stuff pulled from the lake and its shores, this year’s Canyon Lake Yacht Club Lake Clean-up found not a whole lot to clean up.

The clean-up on Saturday was open to all community members and several showed up to help. The two-hour clean-up began at 10:00 a.m. at Diamond Point Park and extended across the lake. Cleaning items were provided, and many were welcome to hop on a boat if they did not have one.

The boats criss-crossed the lake looking for garbage to extract from the lake. The task quickly became just trying to spot something to throw away. The event quickly turned into a party, which officially began at 5:45 p.m. Participants anchored and tied up at Catfish Cove.

“There wasn’t too much trash in the lake,” Renee Griffiths said. “It was lovely meeting new people and having folks jump on our boat to help us spot trash in the lake. I love the comradery that naturally happens when people volunteer and serve the community together.”
