Canyon Lake grads sought for ‘adoption’

With graduation ceremonies canceled last year during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Canyon Lake Family Matters Club jumped into action to acknowledge those Canyon Lake graduates who would be missing once-in-a-lifetime ceremonies. The club is at it again.

Family Matters Club members are going to once again organize its “Adopt a Senior” program next month. The club is looking for two groups of people. First, they need Canyon Lake families to nominate their graduating seniors. The club, then, needs individuals within the community to “adopt” those graduating seniors who have been nominated.

To nominate a graduate, families need to go to the club’s Facebook group page during the duration of the event which begins on June 1 and ends on June 15 and post their child’s name and information. The program is open to graduating Canyon Lake high schoolers and graduating college students.

Those wishing to adopt a graduate can view profiles of students to adopt on the Family Matters Facebook page. Residents are encouraged to gift goodies or presents that students like which are listed on their profiles.

“The goal is to make sure all graduates get adopted,” Jeannie Hoonnirun, a member of the club, said. “We just want to bring a smile to the faces of these grads and celebrate them.”

Adopters can gift one or more items. There is no rule on what or how much can be given to the adopted grad.

This event will begin June 1 at 6:00 p.m.

Canyon Lake ‘Park Hopper’ this month

With Fiesta Days postponed another year because of COVID-19, the Canyon Lake POA is sponsoring an event that will spread participants out better and will adhere to state-mandated restrictions. Canyon Lake Park Hopper will take place the last weekend of May.

This two-day event will take place on May 29 and 30 and will be at four different parks throughout the community. At each park there will be different activities, food truck vendors and entertainment!

As the event approaches, more details will be released by the POA.

Theater Camp offered to CL youth

Children and youth ages four through high school grads are being invited to a Summer Theater Camp being put on by The Canyon Lake Community Theater Group at the end of July.

The camp will be a week-long program where the students will learn different theater techniques and different numbers and perform what they have learned on the Friday night of the camp at the Canyon Lake Lodge.

The cost is $200 for the first child and $150 for every other child from the same family. Each participant will receive a T-shirt and two complimentary tickets to the Friday show.

If other family members would like to attend the show, tickets will be on sale for $10 apiece.

For those interested in attending the camp, email Stephanie Vecchione at clctdirctorofpr@gmail.com with each participant’s name and age, as well as parents names and contact information. Or fill out the form at the club’s website, clctheatre.com. No payment is needed at this time.

The camp will be held the last week of July.
