POA gives thank you to outgoing director

The Canyon Lake Property Owners Association issued a letter of thanks to outgoing board member Tom Nathan. Tom ends his term at the conclusion of the current term which ends this month.

The association wrote:

Tom’s four years of service as a Canyon Lake POA Director comes to a conclusion after the next Board Meeting. Tom says his greatest accomplishment was doing his part to do things right, advance the way we operate and make the community better for everyone.

It takes the judgment and collaboration of five directors to lead this association. Some directors are content with the status quo, some are worried about how much it costs, and some serve with a vision for what we can become. Tom is a visionary with a focus on our facilities and grounds, operations, and financial efficiency.

Tom Nathan

Professionally, he is an “Energetic Financial Professional’’ with in-depth expertise in accounting, finance, and operations, having worked in hospitality, recreation, and billion-dollar multi-national companies.  Tom was a strong contributor to our Board and the Canyon Lake POA, focused and able to clearly articulate his ideas, thoughts, and positions, and at the same time willing to find compromise and accept the decisions that were made.

Tom has been a resident of Canyon Lake since 2001 and “semi-retired” since 2014. Over the years, Tom and his family have been recognized users of many of our amenities, including golf, tennis, Little League, adult softball, and water skiing.

Tom was a member of the Rules, Recreation, and Finance Committees. In 2017, he ran for the Board, having decided to apply his experience to leading Canyon Lake. Tom served as the Treasurer of the  Canyon Lake POA.

He is a firm believer in the high-quality maintenance of our grounds and facilities while at the same time protecting and enhancing our amenities to improve the Canyon Lake experience and increase our property values. He helped craft the vision statement that we intend to be “a resort-style community for our permanent residents.”

Tom’s deep understanding and appreciation of Canyon Lake’s amenities combined with his financial and operational expertise allowed him to contribute to the evolution of many of our facilities and processes. Tom was a strong supporter of all the projects and led the revitalization of the North Ski Area.

He did his part to help stabilize our budgeting and operational practices to bring year-end results closer to expectations through better planning and execution. He contributed to helping the Canyon Lake POA look to the outside for customers to increase the revenues generated by our restaurants and golf course that successfully brought down the subsidies to those amenities.

He assisted with the transition of our financial activities and accounting processes and was the proponent of a new dues structure that would have eliminated most of the user fees. His fresh ideas were always good and stimulating, even if they did not mature into acceptance.

Thank you, Tom, for your four years of service to the Board. You made a difference, and we expect to continue benefiting from your help going forward.
