Welcome Back! KK wins Club Tournament
COVID-19 totally shut down the Canyon Lake Women’s Golf Club’s major tournaments for 2020. With little rust, KK Beecher held off two challengers during the final two holes to win the Canyon Lake Club Championship last week.
After three full days of play and 54 holes of golf, KK won the title by one stroke over Mary Burns and two strokes over third place finisher Gerry Meeks. The three were neck and neck over the final holes of the tournament with KK winning it on the last two holes.
The Canyon Lake Women’s Golf Club typically hosts major tournaments and participates in many more during a season. The club opted to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols and did not host a major tournament all of last year. The Club Championship, played over three days on March 16, 18 and 23, was the breakout tournament for the club.
With the county in Red Tier COVID-19 lessening restrictions, the club was able to hold its luncheon and awards ceremony inside the County Club dining room. It was there that KK was crowned champion and received her championship trophy.
The Club Championship is limited to Canyon Lake Women’s Golf Club members and is three days of individual stroke play. The low gross winner is named the champion. There are four flights of golfers with the top four in each flight receiving awards.

C Flight Winners: Judy Thompson 1st place, Judy Kim 2nd place, Dianne Schnieder 3rd place and Lou DeYoung 4th place.
D Flight Winners: Maxine Whalen 1st place, Barbara Spraul 2nd place, Ura Furry 3rd place and Linda Johnson 4th place.
A Flight Winners: Nancy Zimmerman 4th place, KK Beecher Club Champ, Mary Burns 1st runner up and Past Champ, Gerry Meeks 2nd runner up and past Champ.
