In Memoriam: Claude Robert Montoya

Claude Robert Montoya, 79, of Canyon Lake. passed away on Jan. 8.

Claude was born Feb. 17, 1941 in Encinoso, New Mexico to the late Claudio and Juanita Montoya. He was one of eight children: Agatha Long, Anna Hobbs, Rosa Flemmons, Tony Montoya and preceded in death by Jimmy Montoya, David Montoya and Lupe Fresquez.

He is survived by his children Rodney and Rhonda and his granddaughters Nita and Teyna Montoya.

After raising his family, Claude headed west to build a life and his business from the ground up. Working in his trade for more than 59 years, alongside his son Rodney, Claude never met a stranger and enjoyed long conversations and tall tales over a cup of joe. He had a heart as big as New Mexico.

Calude’s passions during his life included his craft, hunting, horseback riding, hot rods, cheering on the KC Chiefs and the Lakers, and the Lord.

Claude will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but we all find peace in knowing that Claude had a strong relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and he was ready to join his loved ones in eternal glory.

A celebration of life will be had when it is safe to gather. In the meantime, have a cup of coffee and catch up with a loved one.
