Turkey Hand Coloring Contest

In what has become a Thanksgiving tradition, Canyon Lake’s children are being invited to pull out their crayons and markers, outline their hands and create their version of their holiday turkey.

The Canyon Lake POA is partnering with the Canyon Lake Family Matters Club to bring back the Turkey Hand Coloring Contest. This contest is for Canyon Lake children ages 2 through 12 and will run through Thursday.

Participating Canyon Lake children can create a turkey using a pre-made hand outline (available for download online at www.clpoa.com/turkeyhand), or they may outline their hand on a standard 8.5 x 11 sheet of white paper. Adding extra features to the picture, such as other animals, holiday decorations, scenery, etc. is acceptable, as long as the hand turkey outline is most prominent.

Artwork may be emailed to communications@canyonlakepoa.com or the artwork can be turned into the Canyon Lake POA’s office. The child’s name, tract-lot number, phone number, email address and age should be included in the email and/or on the back of the submission (if turning in at the office). Parents are asked to please ensure that the child’s name does not appear on the front of the artwork.

The Family Matters Club is providing the prizes for the most artistic creations for the following age groups: 2 to 5, 6 to 9 and 10 to 12. Winners will be contacted on Nov. 25 and may pick up their prizes at the Canyon Lake POA office.

Artwork submissions will be showcased on the Canyon Lake POA’s Facebook and Flickr pages.

Water district receives $125,000 grant

Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District, which provides water to most of Canyon Lake, has received a $125,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) towards the development of a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan.

FEMA’s Pre-Disaster Mitigation grant program provides funding assistance for states, tribal governments, territories, and local communities to implement natural hazard mitigation programs. These programs help agencies like EVMWD to reduce the vulnerability of their communities, promote public safety and rapidly recover from any natural disasters.

“We are grateful to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for their support in this important project,” Greg Thomas, general manager at EVMWD, said. “The hazard mitigation plan will allow us to proactively reduce the risks posed by natural disasters, ensuring that our customers have uninterrupted access to our essential services even in the case of disaster.”

EVMWD’s Local Hazard Mitigation Plan will address hazards such as earthquakes, fires, floods, drought and more as it assesses risk and prioritizes mitigation actions.

The plan will also utilize information from a recent seismic vulnerability study and drought contingency plan completed by EVMWD, as well as a groundwater sustainability plan that is currently underway.

“By taking strategic steps to prepare for disaster, EVMWD lessens the financial impact that emergencies have on the district and its ratepayers,” Andy Morris, EVMWD board president, said. “The LHMP is one of the many ways we ensure that customers have uninterrupted access to safe, clean, and affordable water at all times.”
