Food donations to feed community families in need this Thanksgiving are being solicited by the City of Canyon Lake as part of its 9th Annual Canyon Lake Turkey and Food Drive Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Residents are invited to give the gift of a Thanksgiving meal by donating a frozen turkey and other non-perishable items. A truck on the outside of the building will make the dropping off of the items both safe and easy. The items will be given to Helping Our People of Elsinore (H.O.P.E.), a local non-profit organization that benefits more than 100 Canyon Lake families.

Canyon Lake residents, clubs and businesses are encouraged to participate in the program to enable the community’s most vulnerable residents and their families to enjoy the holidays this year. The pandemic has created an even greater need this year and Canyon Lake families will be among the benefactors of the donations.

Participants may drop off frozen turkeys and non-perishable food items at Canyon Lake City Hall, 31516 Railroad Canyon Rd., during the hours of the drive. The city is not able to store frozen turkeys and asks that residents not drop off donations prior to the Thursday event.

The items the city is asking to be donated include frozen turkey, whole frozen chicken, stuffing and gravy mixes, canned mushroom soup, canned green beans, canned yams, brown sugar, miniature marshmallows, corn bread mix, hot chocolate, coffee, cake and cookie mixes and other non-perishable items.
