Tickets are still on sale for both concerts. Refunds may also be issued for these events. Information regarding refunds can be found in the original ticket confirmation email or by contacting the POA’s Activities Department at activities@canyonlakepoa.com.

EVMWD receives service award

Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District, which provides water for most of Canyon Lake’s residents, was recently honored with the Operator’s Meritorious Service Award from the California-Nevada Section of the American Water Works Association.

The Operator’s Meritorious Service Awards identify individuals who not only exhibit continuous compliance with all public health standards in drinking water, but also demonstrate dedication to the public beyond normal operating responsibilities. In addition, recipients of the award are recognized for special efforts in training other operators, contributions to plant maintenance and development of more efficient treatment approaches.

“We are honored to receive the Operator’s Meritorious Service Award from CA-NV AWWA,” Greg Thomas, the district’s general manager, said. “Our operators display an exceptional commitment to serving the public through their roles at the district. The individuals recognized have made outstanding contributions in this area.”

Bill Leonard, Lead Water Production Operator, and Chuck Pollock, Field Maintenance Worker III, were nominated by fellow EVMWD employees and selected by AWWA from operators in California and Nevada.

Bill, whose career at EVMWD has spanned over two decades, was recognized for his outstanding work ethic and dedication to constant learning. While teaching staff how to run the complex SCADA system and other facets of EVMWD’s treatment and distribution system, he also completed his bachelor’s degree, demonstrating commitment to continuous learning and improvement. Bill has been instrumental in researching compliance changes, overseeing plant maintenance, and participating in emergency response efforts.

Chuck has more than 35 years in the water industry and continually strives to provide the highest quality of service to customers while optimizing efficiency. He utilizes EVMWD’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) technology to help customers detect leaks and reduce unnecessary use. Chuck displays an exceptional understanding of system operations and uses his knowledge to train others, help customers, and oversee installation of new meters.

“Thanks to the dedication of staff members like Chuck and Bill, EVMWD customers have 24/7 access to clean, reliable water at less than one penny per gallon,” Greg said.

District Attorney’s office receives grant

Drivers arrested in Riverside County on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or a combination of alcohol and drugs will continue to face highly-specialized prosecutors funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety and approved by the Riverside County Board of Supervisors.

The $402,976 grant to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office continues to fund a prosecution team that will handle driving under the influence of drugs (DUID) cases from arrest all the way through sentencing. The new grant covers two deputy district attorneys for fiscal year 2020/2021.

While alcohol remains the primary cause in DUI crashes, the DA’s Office continues to support the effort from the state Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) that aims to drive home awareness that DUI doesn’t just mean alcohol. Prescription medications and marijuana can, by themselves or in combination with alcohol, impair drivers resulting in a DUI arrest.

Under the grant, prosecution team members will work with the state’s Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor Training Network to expand knowledge and resources in the office by obtaining and delivering specialized training, including the emerging problem of drug-impaired driving. Team members will share information with peers and law enforcement personnel throughout the county and across the state.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Administration.
