Spooktacular Contest winners announced

Houses in four categories received prizes in Sabrina Alt’s “The Most Spooktacular Halloween House Contest” held this month and announced this week.

The contest was inspired by a most unique Halloween season in which COVID-19 restrictions limited the typical celebrations.

“This contest seemed like the perfect thing to do during COVID-19 because no large gatherings are allowed,” Sabrina said.

The contest was sponsored by Sabrina through her American Dream Realty. Twenty two houses entered the contest and were judged by Karen Bevans, Brandi Nakakihara, Kellie Welty, Kathy Barbay and Jennifer Barnes on Oct. 23 and 24. Also, hundreds of Canyon Lakers chimed in on the Facebook poll on Halloween Town to vote for the Residents Choice Award.

“It was a nail biter to say the least! Blue Teal and Santa Maria were neck and neck, but Blue Teal took the win by two votes at the literal last minute,” Sabrina said.

Joe Potter created the Facebook polling feature that helped Canyon Lakers vote for their favorite house. Joe also created the online map that lists all the decorated houses of Canyon Lakes Halloween Town on Facebook.

The Resident’s Choice winner at 22791 Blue Teal Drive won a $100 Amazon gift card.

The judges selected the other winners.

Scariest House. First Place: 22791 Blue Teal Drive ($100 Amazon gift card), Second Place: 30108 Cross Hill Drive ($25 Amazon gift card) and Third Place: 29749 Sloop Drive ($25 Amazon gift card).

Most Halloween Spirit. First Place: 29805 Santa Maria Drive ($100 Amazon gift card),    Second Place: 29873 Mayflower Drive ($25 Amazon gift card) and Third Place: 28882 Yosemite Place ($25 Amazon gift card).

Best Special Effects. First Place: 30164 Longhorn Drive ($100 gift card) and Second Place: 22031 Village Way Drive ($100 gift card).

Most Spooktacular Street. Mustang Court, which will receive a summer block party with pizza, a bouncy house and a DJ.

Sabrina is hoping to make the contest an annual event.

“We are definitely hoping to bring it back next year after this successful year,” she said.
