Pickleball Club puts on costumes, plays matches

The Canyon Lake Pickleball Club decided to resume its monthly evening socials after having cancelled them since March because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The club’s October theme was dressing up and while in costumes competing in Pickleball matches.

A total of 22 club members attended this first night back and after the Pickleball matches enjoyed desserts and drinks provided by the members, under the lights and cool breeze by the lake.

The Pickleball Club has multiple social events planned for the next four months. Next month the club will hold its November Turkey Potluck and Junior Clinic for ages 9-17 on Dec. 4 and 5. In December it will hold an exhibition tournament showcasing the most advanced players, the Annual Christmas Party and Boat Parade and its December Christmas Potluck.

After the first of the year, the club will hold a Beginner’s Day, where members will teach community members how to play, on Jan. 9 and a January Sport’s Theme Potluck. The Annual Super Bowl Party and a Sweethearts and Singles Tournament will take place in February.

In between these scheduled events are many boat cruises on the lake, concerts, game nights, and BBQ’s, all of which will include something for everyone of all ages.

“We invite anyone to come play and enjoy the fun of pickleball,” Steve Libring, the club secretary, said. “It’s easy and fast to learn and is great exercise without over-stressing your body.”

Club dues, for those wishing to participate in the club’s events and socials, are $10 per person per year when a 3-year membership is paid. A portion of the dues collected are returned to the community in new projects or replacing existing items.

The Pickleball Club has grown from 20 founding members four years ago to 155 current members. Many new members sign on every month, Steve said.

“So, if you want 155 new friends,” he said, “Stop by the pickleball courts and introduce yourself or check us out on the Canyon Lake POA website or Facebook.”
