Chamber looking for volunteers, board members

The Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce has been busy during the COVID-19 quarantine revamping and rebranding itself to better provide services in 2021, Kristina Rasband, the new marketing/communications director, said.

Additionally, the chamber is currently looking for individuals to join its Board of Directors. The Chamber of Commerce is here to help local businesses network and grow a stronger community among business owners and the public, she said.

“The chamber is looking for energetic, responsible, creative and hard-working individuals who can help achieve just that,” Kristina said. “We are currently looking for a Vice President, Director of Volunteers, Director of Sponsorship and Donations, Director of Membership, Director of Member Events and Director of Community Events.”

Those who are interested and think they are the perfect fit should submit a cover letter to the chamber at CanyonLakeChamber@outlook.com and follow the chamber on Instagram and Facebook.

Wednesday last day to order Family Matters pasta

The final day orders can be made for the Canyon Lake Family Matters Club’s pasta fundraiser is Wednesday. The funds earned by the club will help offset proceeds it typically receives by holding events throughout the year. COVID-19 has changed its ability to hold the events and fundraisers like this pasta sale helps keep its purposes funded.

Christmas is one of the highlight times of the year for the club. During a typical year, the club holds events that produce funds which are used for philanthropic donations and to put on free events, including a Santa Letter Program where Canyon Lake kids receive letters from Santa and treats.

With the club not being able to hold its regular events because of COVID-19 restrictions, it is turning to fundraisers to obtain the funds it will need to put on the Santa Letter Program.

“We are raising money for our Christmas/Santa Letter Program in hopes to still be able to do it this year,” the club’s Shawna Bowen said. “We are needing your help in reaching our fundraising goal.”

Selling Fun Pasta is the fundraiser the Family Matters Club is conducting in September. Fun Pasta is healthy fun pasta shaped like the holidays, sports, collegiate team logos and more.  The Fun Pasta colorful brochure and its website show a wide variety of products that will appeal to everyone, Shawna said.

“Please share the fundraiser website and help support our fundraising efforts,” she said. “Many thanks for helping us reach our goal.”

Purchases can be made at www.funpastafundraising.com/shop/canyon-lake-family-matters-club or by emailing the club at info@familymattersclub.org for more information. There is free shipping on orders over $55 and all products are made in the USA in small batches for freshness and quality. Orders can be made until Wednesday (Sept. 30).

The Santa Letter Program the club hopes to continue this year is open to kids under the age of 18 who submit a letter and wish list to Santa in care of the Family Matters Club. Children who submit their letter receive a letter back from Santa and a special treat to leave out on Christmas Eve.

Fine Arts Guild postpones Queen Nation concert

The Queen tribute concert has been pushed into next year after The Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild was unable to make the Oct. 17 outdoor concert work amid COVID-19 restrictions.

The Queen Nation concert was originally scheduled for the Lodge, but was moved outdoors to the Amphitheater when the COVID-19 crisis began. The hope was that the pandemic would be on the downswing by October, Guide President Ron Martel said.

The Guild earlier shifted its Crosby Stills Nash & Young tribute and Brooks & Dunn tribute concerts from earlier in the year to the Amphitheater, but those also had to be postponed into 2021. Riverside County officials are still forbidding live music events at both indoor and outdoor park venues, even with the social distancing the Guild had planned to implement.

“The Guild has made every effort to bring live music back to the lake this summer,” Ron said. “However, the health and safety of our guests remains our highest priority. We ask that everyone hold onto their tickets. We are eager to schedule new dates by year-end.”

Each concert had been sold out, but with the delays, it is possible that some seats may become available. These concerts will be subject to approval by state and local authorities and the Guild will continue to adjust its concert dates based on their OK. The Guild is posting its most current information on its website, CanyonLakeGuild.org, and on its Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild Facebook page.

The Guild Board of Directors includes Bonnie Dubbs, Corrie Tutt, Larry Garland, Shari Skidmore, Rhonda Pilto and Jim Lafferty.

“We thank the people of Canyon Lake for their continued support while we return to ‘normal,’ whatever that may be,” Ron said. “We will not allow this to defeat us. Our music will return even stronger in 2021!”
