Blessing of the Boats

The first annual Canyon Lake Yacht Club Mid-Summer Blessing of the Boats took place on Saturday and was open to all boats in the community. After Yacht Club Commodore Dave Dain welcomed the boats to the event, Aprile DeAnne McKinnon sang an A Capella solo of the National Anthem on the Flag Boat. Canyon Lake Community Church’s Pastor Pete Van Dyke gave a message on the significance of boating and the water for people of faith and then prayed for safety and fun for the assembled boats. Boats then lined up behind the commodore’s boat for the slow boat parade around the main lake.

Next year, the event will become the Opening Day of Boating Season/Blessing of the Boats. Most boating communities hold such a traditional event and now Canyon Lake has joined them.
