American Idol star joins Marquez in CL concert

If you love boats and you love live music, what could be better than combining the two? Easy answer: combining the two for free. Residents are invited to come out on the lake for Canyon Lake’s first ever “Rock the Boat” concert featuring popular local performers Makayla Phillips and the Kenny Marquez Band on Sunday, Sept. 6 starting at 7:00 p.m.

Utilizing the amphitheater stage at Holiday Harbor, the concert is designed to be viewed from the lake, and the speakers will face the water. Canyon Lakers are invited to enjoy this concert by boat, paddle board or kayak. At 6:00 p.m., the main lake will slow down to 5 mph.

Makayla Phillips, 18, was a Golden Buzzer recipient on America’s Got Talent, Season 13 and made it to the Top 11 on this year’s American Idol.

Kenny Marquez is the former lead guitarist for the 1980s/90s multi-million dollar selling American rock band Renegade. Kenny is known as the Human Juke Box, he has a unique gift for outrageous banter from stage and he has performed at more than 500 venues throughout Southern California.

This concert is designed to be viewed from the lake only. The amphitheater and surrounding area will be closed to access and use. Police and Canyon Lake Community Patrol will be in place to enforce access control at the closed areas.

Residents are asked to continue to practice all physical distancing and face covering guidelines now in place.
