All boaters are invited to Yacht Club’s ‘Whale Hunt’ tomorrow

The Canyon Lake Yacht Club First Annual Whale Hunt takes place tomorrow (Saturday) at 2:00 p.m. The scavenger-hunt-style event is open to all Canyon Lake boaters, including non-members of the club.

“The goal is to capture the whale that has been recently seen in the East Bay in order to keep our beautiful lake safe for swimmers and boaters alike,” the club’s Vice Commodore Ron Wilbur said. “Rumor has it that while this whale is friendly, and no incidents have been noted, it is getting too big and needs to be relocated.”

Boats wishing to participate are to gather at the dock at Diamond Point Park (recognizable by its giant turtle slide) at 2:00 p.m. to pick up their hunting packages. Along with clues about where the whale might be found, there are questions to be answered about sights participants might see along their hunt. In addition, there will be scavenger hunt items they will need to place into their packages.

When each boat is finished with the assigned tasks, it returns to the dock, places its whale, the answered questions and its scavenger items inside of the provided envelope. After writing the participant’s name and email address on the front of the envelope, boaters are to deposit the envelope into the red collection bucket on the dock.

This hunt is designed to provide a fun event for the community, Ron said, while still easily maintaining social distancing.
